This page is ALL about hot chocolate!!!!!! I know, I know. What does hot chocolate have to do with elapsed time? Well, who ever said you couldn't include hot chocolate with your elapsed time questions? I mean seriously! Anyway, let's get to hot chocolate math. First, we will solve one together. Then on to the quiz you go!
Sally had one cup of hot chocolate. If she started drinking her hot chocolate at 7:30 am and she finished at 8:46 am, how long did it take her to drink her cup? How long would it take her to drink two cups?
This is a two step math problem. One part is to figure out how long it took her to drink her first cup and the other part is to figure out how long it would take her to drink two cups.
In order to figure out how long it took her to drink one cup we are going to have to use our time skills. It says that both of these times are in the morning by saying 'am'. We have to figure out how much time is in between 7:30 and 8:46. Let's start by figuring out how long it takes to get from 7:30 to 8:30. 1 hour, right! Then we have to get to 8:46 to 8:30. Well, 30 plus/+ 15 equals/= 45. That's really close but, we need one more minute. So, it takes 1 hour and 16 minutes for Sally to drink one cup.
If we want to find out how long it will take her to drink two then, we need to add 1 hour 16 minutes +/plus 1 hour and 16 minutes. That equals/= 2 hours and 32 minutes.
If you have more questions post on the blog page or on the Q&A page. I will try to get back to you as soon as I can.
